#14: An apocalyptic gift for you!

Hey there,

I'm going to keep it short and sweet this time (I know, if I were a character in Brooklyn Nine Nine, that would probably be the title of my sex tape...) Partly because so far, my December is apocalyptically busy, and like many of you, I'm running around like a viral zombie chicken with its head cut off; but mostly because this email includes a TON of bonus reading material that I'm sure you'll be undying to get to.

So let me just stick a figurative sock in my perpetual need to blabber on like an auctioneer who needs a pee break, and get right to the point.

As I mentioned in my last newsletter, a couple of months ago I was invited to participate in a really gnarly Holiday writing project, a collective giveaway anthology of apocalyptic short stories written by some of the best authors in the genre.

It's finally here. And it's totally free!

Once Upon an Apocalypse is a massive collection of world-destroying content which includes stories by mega-bestselling heavy hitters like Kyla Stone, David A. Simpson, Ryan Schow, T.L. Payne, Christopher Artinian, and many, many more. And somehow... I'm in there too! Maybe the organizers mistook me for Nick Rhodes, the founder of Duran Duran, and figured having Nick on board would bring in a hearty dollop of legendary New Wave visibility to the project. Oopsie.

In any case, the non-musical icon version of my namesake squeaked through the process. And so, in this book, you'll find my short story Jangle, a brand new Holiday-themed tale of planet-smashing Armageddon written especially for this ambitious project.

Isn't that merry?

I'm a huge fan of the genre, personally, so I can't wait to dig into this book and read every single story inside. Please let me know what you think, especially if you have any feedback about Jangle. And let me know if you have any favorite stories from the other participating authors also.

So here you go! On behalf of myself and a couple dozen other apocalypse-addicted authors, here's a delightfully doomsday-themed gift.

Happy Holidays!

Click the image below (or copy and paste the URL into your browser) to get your free eBook. (NOTE: THIS PROMOTION HAS NOW EXPIRED) And please spread the post-apocalyptic cheer: share the link to the book on social media, in post-apocalyptic friendly reader groups, or email the link to your friends and family, especially if they also enjoy stories about flesh-eating zombies, EMPs, nuclear wastelands, asteroid apocalypses or brain-exploding pandemics.

Important: this book goes away forever on January 1st, so grab it quick before 2021 goes bye-bye! (I might send you a reminder just before the book disappears, in case you miss this email.)

OTHER NEWS

Better Dead than Red should be launching next month, so hopefully next time you hear from me there's going to be a brand new free book for you to dive into! It's only going to be available for free to my newsletter subscribers for a very short amount of time, so please make sure you open up my next email or two.

The Audiobook for Dom of the Dead should also launch in January, so if you're curious to hear what Yasmine sounds like, it's only a few weeks away. In the meantime though, if you'd like to read (or leave a review for) my first-ever novella, it'd totally jingle my bells (sorry if that sounds dirty).

Zillionaire: Zombie Apocalypse Survival for the Rich & Famous is also almost ready to launch! I held a pretty wide informal poll on Facebook to see if people preferred a red or a green cover, and 72% of respondents opted for green. So green it is!

Here's what the book will look like:

And finally, I'm making great progress writing my brand new novella Dog of the Dead, yet another story I'm planning on giving away to my awesome newsletter subscribers. This tale will introduce a very important four-legged character to my upcoming Zombie Vale series. I'm really looking forward to introducing my giant furry protagonist to you all!

Here's a cover reveal for Dog of the Dead:

I'm heading off soon to visit my in-laws (don't worry, they're not quite as psychopathic as most in-laws tend to be) in New Brunswick for a very long Christmas break, with my whole family in tow. I'm hoping to stuff myself with Turkey, spiked eggnog, and an obscene, possibly criminal amount of sugary Holiday treats. I also want to get plenty of downtime with my kids, and hopefully earn myself a bit of quiet time reading the aforementioned anthology stories by the fireplace, drinking Hot Toddies or coffee with Bailey's.

What about you? Any plans for the Holidays?

Whether you're taking it easy or going full out for the end of the year, I hope you have a safe, fun, and restful time, and turn the page into 2022 with buckets of hope, a shipping container's worth of happiness, and a strategic reserve of silliness ahead of you. Thank you so much for hanging out with me over the past year; I feel so lucky and privileged for every single one of you who took a little time to read my meandering emails every month.

Happy Holidays,

Nic
