Okay, so technically this is more of a vampire apocalypse series, but when the story is this good, this gut-wrenching, who cares about technicalities? This trilogy - which spans about a thousand years of storytelling from beginning to end - is the story of how a primitive, devastating vampire plague spreads across the planet, and sends our civilization crashing back to the stone age. A TV series was produced retelling the first book of the series, but I recommend you skip it. Just dive into these huge, epic books. Get all three, because there's no way you can just read the first one. They are INCREDIBLE. I couldn't stop thinking about this story for a very long time after finishing them.
